Dr. Benno Nigg: Running Shoes – 40 years of research

by | Sep 7, 2020 | Runchatlive Podcasts: Gait and Shoes

A true honour this episode to spend an hour chatting with special guest for Dr. Benno Nigg. Regarded by many as the important contributor to running related research over the past 40 years, Dr.Nigg is Founder & director of the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Calgary, a multi-disciplinary Research Center concentrating on the study of the human body and its locomotion.

In this episode of Runchatlive, Dr. Nigg discusses the SCIENCE behind modern running shoes as we take a look at some of the many hugely influential research papers he has published.

With over 25,000 publications on human locomotion, in particular with relation to products such as orthoses, shoe insoles, sport shoes, surfaces and sport equipment, Dr. Nigg gives us an inside look at his latest study that appeared this August in the British Journal of Sports Medicine: ‘The teeter-totter effect: A new mechanism to understand shoe-related improvements in long-distance running.’

An incredible hour, thank you once again Dr. Benno Nigg for giving us his time.

This episode was streamed & recorded LIVE to not only our Facebook page but ALSO at ‘The Running Community‘ Facebook page with its over 12k happy followers. Great way to get quality information out to runners!
