Lesson 6: Choosing Running Shoes – Runchatlive Runners Guide

by | Apr 6, 2021 | Runners Guide Course Preview

Choosing Running Shoes

In Lesson 6 of the ‘Runchatlive Runners Guide’ course we take a look at another HUGELY popular topic discussed by runners, and one that again typically creates more disagreement than agreement: choosing running shoes.

Though many shoe shops still use the amount of ‘pronation’ they see when you run on their treadmill to prescribe you shoes, there isn’t actually any science behind it.

We are all too different to allow the creation of a norm or a categorisation system that puts us into three groups (high arch, normal arch, low arch). In fact, research shows that selecting a shoe based on how much your arch drops reduces injury no more than choosing a shoe at random.

So what do we use to select our running shoes? This episode should help you find answers!
